Yeah this has happend before a couple of years ago.
I would not say it is an attack on the arts.
If any thing the series here highlighted how difficult and amzing most circus skills are.

Also it seemed to remind the tv watching public about how rad circus is.
I know the circus that they did this with in australia had lots bigger croweds after they featured on that show.

      Think of the fun!
There's the predictable "ohmygod... " while a d-list celeb clutches the rigging on the board for the flying trapese segment
The injury potential of out-of-shape actors attempting a 2-high
not to mention the inevitable flaming poi to the crotch...

      Good stuff...

Ah yes, the sweet pleasures of watching a crotch-seeking flaming poi missile. Who doesn't want to watch d-list celebs hurt themselves and get frustrated with physical activity? I hope it does well, it will prime the networks for my own circus reality-show: "Welcome to the big top...grab a broom"

Its nothing new. For those of you old enough to be alive in the 70's, there was a show called Circus of the Stars. Check it out on wikipedia.

my first thought was of that show, and my second thought was "are you (original poster) really worried that some celebrity is going to do circus wrong?"

define wrong? i'm all for watching this train wreck for the laughs. the thought of a celeb-reality show about something i actually enjoy kind of made me gag. that's all. i can just imagine trying to explain silks to someone and hearing them say "oh, like those things heidi montag wrapped herself up in and got upside down and almost flashed national tv?" ugh.

Does anyone actually own a TV so I can come watch this disaster?

I have a TV, I might even watch it. I don't watch things like Dancing with the Stars, but since it's circus I might give it a try. It might be fun to laugh at them trying to do circus stuff. I probably won't recognize anyone, though. I'm not up on who's who in Hollywood.

But I'm with one of the earlier posters in this thread, what harm is it to circus to have some beginners try it? It will show how difficult circus skills are. And it will likely bring circus activities even more into the forefront of the average American's mind to have a show like that on TV. Circus seems to be more popular lately, all forms of circus. This is just one more way to be entertained by circus.

Where do you live, do you want to watch it on my TV? When is it starting and on what channel?

what i really want to know is how they went about finding coaches, and who the coaches are....

and why didnt we hear about them looking for circus instructors?

anyways, its not gonna effect much of anything as far as circus and pop culture are concerned, unless it spawns a circus competition reality tv show, like top chef or what not....that could be kinda rad....

but i guess thats what america's got talent is, except that show blows.

      >> and why didnt we hear about them looking for circus instructors? <<

I heard about it. They asked at the circus school I work for, were told no, and then later they apologized. They had thought we were in Southern California. We are in the Bay Area.

Except one instructor that worked only one morning a week for us did say he would be working on the show. I'll be curious to see if he really is on the show. He is not working at our school these days.
